About the U

University Middle and High School Academies are all college-prep, STEM, comprehensive, public schools. UHSA opened its doors to ninth graders September 2, 2008 with the graduating class of 2012. In fall of 2016 we moved to our new home, formerly Southfield-Lathrup High School on Twelve Mile Road. In 2018 we added University Middle School with grades 6-8.  The U currently has a student body of approximately 500. The U is accredited through AdvancedEd.

Our school day is 7:45-3:00, (Half days 7:45-11:30) with the building opening at 7:00. There is time built into the instructional school day to cultivate leadership traits, pursue supplementary academic enrichment and to develop meaningful relationships with school staff.
